Apple To Launch Self Repair Service – Users Can Now Repair Their Devices Themselves

Beginning next year, Apple will provide “parts, tools, and manuals” for repairing iPhone 12 and 13 smartphones in the comfort of their own homes to its consumers.

On Wednesday, the fourth-largest global smartphone manufacturer said that the “Self Service Repair” initiative will begin in the United States and “extend to additional nations during 2022.”

The program’s first phase will concentrate on the most regularly repaired smartphone components, such as the display, battery, and camera. Later next year, the ability to perform additional repairs will be made available. It will also include Macs equipped with M1 processors.

“In the last three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service sites with Apple authentic parts, tools, and training, and now we’re giving people the choice to make their own repairs.” Although a woman mending her phone at the kitchen table was used to illustrate the new program, Apple suggested that customers should first consult a ‘trained’ technician before attempting self-care.

Apple added,

“Self Service Repair is intended for individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. For the vast majority of customers, visiting a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair.”

Customers who return their used part for recycling after a repair will receive credit against their purchase.
